The year promises to be busy with more activity of interest to those involved with HR education. Notably, in this update, we welcome Robyn Leeming and Leanne Inder, who have both taken up new roles at the Institute this year: Education Endorsement Programme Manager, and Student Relations Manager, respectively. Debbie introduces Robyn and Leanne to us more fully in this newsletter. It is great that we now have three people at HRINZ National Office seeking to optimize relationships and opportunities between those in the HR education system and practitioners.
A quick reminder of a couple of our existing offerings: Firstly, the Institute has funds available to assist with research and publication work. Later in the newsletter, Debbie updates us on the new application process for the research and publications fund. Secondly, we are always on the lookout for new articles for our peer reviewed online journal: the New Zealand Journal of Human Resources Management.
This year the practitioners’ conference theme centres on Sustaining Work. It would be great to have Journal papers to refer the practitioners to, as an additional resource, so please think about your year’s research programme to see if there is anything particularly relevant to this topic. Remember, we accept articles on any HR topic, though.
Finally, don’t forget to look through the Institute’s HR Competency Framework it could be useful for your programmes and courses. Similarly, those of you who are members of HRINZ will be able to access the competency report and materials that led to the development of the competencies, in the research section. All interesting reading…
Best wishes
Kris Cooper, AFHRINZ
Vice President
Chair, Research and Publications Sub Committee

1. HRINZ Launches the Education Endorsement Programme
As part of HRINZ's commitment to supporting relevant, quality professional development for the HR community, we have launched the Education Endorsement Programme (EEP).
The Education Endorsement Programme involves assessment of education offerings against the HRINZ Competency Framework (upon application). The Programme is available currently to Universities in New Zealand with plans to expand to Polytechnics and Private Training Establishments in the future.
The Education Endorsement Panel is a subcommittee of the Executive Committee and is responsible for reviewing the submissions for the Institute’s Education Endorsement Programme in accordance with the constitution and any decisions of the Board. All endorsement panel members are accredited members of the Institute with at least a Masters qualification in a field relevant to HR. Current members represent the Corporate, SME, Government, Local Government and Consultancy sectors, so all employment sector interests are reflected in the endorsement decisions and steps are in place to ensure consistency in decision making.
2. HRINZ New Education Endorsement Programme Manager
Robyn Leeming has joined HRINZ to manage the launch of its new Education Endorsement Programme. As a former Professor and Head of Massey University’s Graduate School of Business, Robyn is well-placed to understand the value added to tertiary institutions in having their programmes endorsed by an established professional organisation.
Four universities have already agreed to seek HRINZ’s endorsement of their Human Resource papers and the programme will be “fine-tuned” as these papers are submitted for “blind” assessment by a panel of some of New Zealand’s most experienced and well-qualified Human Resources professionals. Later in the year, the programme will be rolled out to other tertiary institutions.
Applications for endorsement will be made on line and Robyn will be available at all times to either help with applications or to answer questions regarding costs and expectations of applicants "The bar for endorsement will be high" she says "but that protects both the HRINZ brand which is among the most respected in the world and the institutions who take pride in the quality of their human resource programmes".
If you would like more information on the Education Endorsement Programme, please email: Robyn.Leeming@hrinz.org.nz
3. HRINZ New Student Relations Manager
Leanne Inder has joined HRINZ, as the Student Relations Manager. Leanne has worked for public and private sector organisations in a variety of HR roles; managing a number of HR project related and change management initiatives. Upon returning to Victoria University in 2005, she completed a BCA with a triple major in HRIR, Commercial Law & Management and has a current appreciation of the issues that students may be faced with. Leanne was the first recipient of the HRINZ scholarship with Victoria in the 2005/2006 academic year.
Leanne is looking forward to increasing the awareness and strengthening the relationships between HRINZ, students, academics, other university staff, celebrating the success of students, supporting regional branches to grow student membership and of course managing and promoting student focused initiatives which include; the HRINZ Postgraduate Scholarship, HRINZ Top Student Award and the Student Ambassador program.

The new format is easier to use and will assist applicants to have a clearer understanding of what the Research and PublicationsCommittee requires.
