HRINZ Academic eList

August 2007 Edition

Welcome to the 2nd e-newsletter – a little early but we have the expected update on the Student Ambassador Programme, which kicks off with a 2007 conference offer. We thought you’d want to know!

Also, I am pleased to introduce Debbie Bridge, our new HR Careers and Education Manager. Debbie will be preparing future newsletters and be in touch with you on other education matters. Special thanks to Kelly Shea for starting this off. Kelly will continue to work with Debbie, and Kelly remains our Manager of Special Projects, working on tertiary education matters.

Thirdly, in this issue, we highlight a couple of the 2007 conference sessions that may be of interest to you. Finally, remember, we have the research and publications fund available, and we’re soon to have new articles added to our Journal.

Best wishes
Kris Cooper, AFHRINZ
Vice President
Chair, Research and Publications Sub Committee

Please forward the newsletter to any colleagues who may be interested. (See below for how to join or remove yourself from the Academic eList.)

Three students from throughout New Zealand will each receive one complimentary registration to the HRINZ 2007 HR Conference (excluding transport and accommodations) plus a student membership for the year. These students will then be out on campus promoting and educating on HRINZ and HR Careers throughout the year.

The closing date for 2007-2008 is August 9 so if you, or someone you know, are interested more information and the application are available here.

2. New HR Careers and Education Manager

Debbie is originally from South Wales, graduated in 1992 with a Tertiary Qualification in Business and Tourism Management, and started working for the Department of Work & Pensions in a supervisory role for five years. She then decided to gain some international work experience by working for Princess Cruises for three years, before heading to off to do her OE in 2001. One of the places this trip included was 6 weeks in New Zealand which ended up lasting for three years! During her three year stay Debbie worked for the Institute of Professional Engineers New Zealand, based in Wellington. Her responsibilities were with membership enquiries, continuous professional development (CPD) issues and co-ordinating Branch newsletters and events.

Due to family reasons Debbie returned to South Wales, where she worked in various HR roles within both public and private sector based companies ranging from the H.M. Prison Service to Alcatel Telecoms.

Debbie studied for her first year CIPD Qualification in 2005, before immigrating to New Zealand permanently in May 2007. As you probably guessed is a huge rugby supporter and fan of the game; and now officially supports Wales and the All Blacks.
